Every spring the same thing happens. A bird the size of a loaf of bread decides you are the problem, and for six weeks you take the long way to the shops. The magpie side-eye collection is built around one design — a vintage naturalist illustration of an Australian magpie, giving the look it gives everyone in a bike helmet between August and October.
In fairness to the magpie: it's defending its kids, it remembers faces, and it sings better than most of us. Swooping season is a few weeks of parenting, not a personality. We're on its side, mostly, from a safe distance.
